Software Review Recnoyx: Silent Image - Mapview

June 24, 2006:  After unpacking the Reconyx silent image camera, I inventoried the box.  Included were, Camera, 256MB CF card, a CD with the Mapview software 8 AA Alkaline batteries, a Quick Start guide and a Bungee cord.

Installation:  Upon insertion of the CD, the installer automatically launches.  The software installation was very easy and guided me thru each step.

Software Overview

The software allows for several operations. The most important one is Camera settings.  On this camera you use the software to set up the camera.  Your changes are saved the the compact flash card which you must have in a card reader on your pc.  When you place the card into the camera and power it up, it will load the settings into the camera.

The system is called mapview because it allows you to establish multiple maps, each with any number of locations.  As you bring your cards in from the field and place them into the card reader, you can launch mapview from the Windows XP dialog.  You can select a location and import the images.  You can view slide shows for your photos.

It is not necessary to use the mapview software.  I find that other than for changing the camera settings, it is of no value to me but may be to others... Its just personal opinion here.  Windows XP does everything I need and I am used to that.

The software is well written and intuitive.

Below are some screen shots of the system:
