We had a previous situation where we were all fired up about how good the Duracell batteries were, until we got stung sharply by a series of new packs of batteries where there were more than one dead cell in the pack. We switched to Energizer batteries and in most cases that was the battery of choice until a recent issue. This involved the yet to market Uway cameras which is very much in a rush to get their product to the hands of the public to show them just how good they actually are. Anthony and I opened the shipping box and began to examine these new cameras. I had just recently bought a new 12 pack of Energizer C cells and they were still sealed in the original box. The first stupid mistake was for us to trust the batteries coming out of the pack as being good. Our experience has taught us to always pre test every cell going into a camera. We have a manufacturer waiting by the computer for every bit of information that our testing can provide.

Because of the bad cells we made an error to the manufacture which caused a lot of extra work. When this feedback started back as to the potential changes that were about to take place, I took a second look at the remaining 4 cells that were in that 12 pack. One of which was completely dead. We were able to stop the factory changes in time and let them know that the issue was not their camera but bad batteries.

We are down to using Ray O Vacs now and so far we have yet to find a bad pack. Let's hope this will continue. We are researching the pre-charged NiMh high Ah cells as a possible alternate. The claims of residual voltage is inflated and we are having a problem finding reliable sources of good information on those type cells, unless we purchase and run the tests our selves.

I always thought the Rayovac were second rate batteries. Just goes to show how advertising affects what we buy. I can't remember the last time I ever saw a Rayovac commercial.

I've always lumped Rayovac and everready in my mind as poor generic battery wannabees.

Maybe I have been too critical. I have never tried them.

I will say that I tried Ray O Vacs once with my SG550 and they leaked in the camera.

I've had Publix brand AAs in my SG and they seem to last just as long as namebrands.

Excellent info, Anthony! I just bought a 48 pack of Ray-O-Vac alkaline batteries from Home Depot for about $14 (the same price as a 36 pack of Energizers), which equates to about 29 cents per battery - a sound investment by any measure.

Yeah, i purchased the 48 pack of Rayovacs also thanks to this thread. So far after almost 2 months in three of my 3 SG550's, all is working fine!

never been a copper top fan for sure, I mainly used energizers untill last deer season and started buying the Rayovacs, been using them every since, 50 pack AA's at the local walmart for $15, getting at least 3000 pics out of a set of 8 AA rayovacs in my 09 BTC's and that's not even letting them go completely dead

The above link refers to an article that looks like it was a good source in it's day. I say that because it appears to have been written over 8 years ago in 2002. It appears then to have been updated in 2005.

As for consumable batteries I've not had a concern with Ray O Vac's.
As for rechargeables - I think I'll stick with my Sanyo Eneloop's.
