One of the fellows at the local sports shop saw me approaching and his first comment was " I know you want to know how many of those 1 minute delay cameras have been sold". It has became one of our pet peeves and we seem to harp on it a lot. We understand that the extended delay periods do have their value in some cases.

We are going to ask that we have some volunteers who have at least two like cams that can be set to 15 second delay and the other to 1 minute delay do some field work for us. The setup would be a trail or crossing (funnel) situation. Both cameras should be set to look at the same area, with one set to 15 seconds and the other to one minute. We are interested in a count of missed animals only per a given period of time which would be one week, we do not need picture quality data because there is a chance that in some circumstances there would be a double flash happening.

This is the off season to a lot of camera users, but it is the busy season for us and the new stuff that keeps piling up. It is also the time that we need to get the message to the manufactures who insist on these week long delay times and the need to change, but with solid proof from the field.

Please give us your feed back and you dont have to thank us for giving you an excuse to not cut the grass and head for the woods.

Would "cousins" such as a 2010 BTC and a SG 560 be considered "like cameras"?

How quick would you need the results? I could do it but it may be a while.

Anthony, I pulled one of my '09 Bushnells this morning and will place it with one of my others. Both will get fresh, tested batteries and identical SD cards. Heck, I may even mount both on a steel plate to ensure they are on the same plane! Only problem I see is this time of year a lot of the deer are in small family groups (One doe and two fawns, 2 bucks together, etc.) and may influence the results. I guess we will see!

If I EVER went out in the woods anymore, I'd be happy to assist with this....

It gets worse--I spent 2.5 hours hunting does from my treestand before pulling the camera!
And, here is the last deer to have its picture taken before removing the cam, with me in stand watching!

I don't mind doing this with homebrews - same information in the long term.

This is what bugs me most about the commerical cams, the dirty little secret is they know that probably 80% of all cameras are going over bait/mineral sites of some kind, whether it's a few handfulls of corn or salt. So why should they spend money to cater to only 20% of the market (in terms of faster trigger times or shorter delays)? One less thing they have to worry about. Hopefully, exercises like this will go a long way towards changing their minds.

This morning I set the cameras. The time was synchronized, batteries checked and identical SD cards installed and formatted. Both cameras were set to 3 burst. One is set to 1 minute and the other set to 12 seconds. (I will change it to 15 seconds in the next day or too) They were placed side by side at the same angle.

Thanks for the work but to be most scientific we need to set the cameras on single shot.

10-4. I'll set them to 1 shot. I just fugured they might use the excuse "our camera would have caught that in burst mode!"

Anthony, I made a trip to the woods and both cameras are set on one pic. The delay is now 15 seconds on one, one minute on the other. I had 45 pictures on the one minute cam and 69 pics on the 12 second cam. Most were me setting things up, but a few furry critters. I will check the cams in 3 or 4 days.
