I am looking at purchasing a trail camera for around $100 or more. I am looking at the SG 550,560, covert cams and the moultrie m80x or xt line of cams.

I have a moultrie m80 when they first came out but I dont see them anymore, plus the battery life was just ok.

I want a camera with good battery life. Anyone have any experiences with these cameras?

today i purchased a covert ca-3 from sportsmans quide for 89 dollars i also got one that lookes just like it but no camo and is 5m.p. also for 89 dollars. i quess i am gambling on the second one but from what everyone says that has used the ca3 it is a no brainer. this will be a close in cam. that will give me another tool to use. you can also find the 2010 bushnell 119-325 on ebay 1 for 93 dollars or3 for 272 dollars. i now have 5 of these the oldest of which is going on 20 months of continuous service, they come with a 2 year warranty and you can purchase another year warranty when you register it online. for 106 dollars a piece i bought 3 of these and i know i will not have to start over by buying another cam to replace them for at least 3 years. i returned the m-80 i bought last june while it was still under warranty. for my use the bushnell serves me better. as those that are much wiser than me say;as old arkey says ; it is best to let others buy the new ones and wait to see what works, good advice but i am not wise enough to always follow it. hazelvillebucks

I'll second the ca 3.0 its a good choice for $89 The remote is a little bit of a hassle but they'll show you whats there and the pics are decent.

I would go with the sg550 or the covert ca 3.0. Seems the sg550 has very good battery life, but it's reliability is hard to match when it comes to chinese made cameras, it's been out for a while. The ca 3.0 is also good the night pics seem a little better. Not sure about the sg550 but I think they both have to be programmed by a seperate remote.

From all I've seen the Covert CA 3.0 is a pretty good camera for the money... Only reason I don't use um is because they have a remote...

hazelvillebucks,

What is the model number on those 2010 bushnell trophy cams? is it 119435c?

For those of you recommending the 3.0 coverts how is the battery life? I understand they take only 4 AA batteries while the others can take up to 8.

I understand they now have the covert 4.0, are these cameras a big improvement over the 3.0 or should I stick with the 3.0?

the 2010 bushnell i was taklin about is different than the other bushnell,s in that it was made at a different factory. it is the one that walmart had. the 119-435 is probably a better cam if you get one without the 2010 issues. i post quite a few pictures from the 119 --325. i still believe that when one looks at warranty vs price vs reliability there is no better deal to be found. the ca3 has a really big following the new ca4 will have to earn its fans. after all what we are talking about is the cams that have earned their respect. truly hazelvillebucks

I bought a CA 3.0 last October and it has been out collecting pictures ever since on the original set of energizer lithium. I would estimate close it has taken about 6000 pictures and is still going strong.

Daytime picture are plenty good for my purpose. Does have a little blurring on night pics if the animal is moving at a decent pace. Overall I like the camera.
