I have a large inventory of Apollos and I am dropping the price to $400, you will not find a better camera for a better price! If you have any questions about the cameras don't hesitate to ask, I have used these cameras for 3 years now, and have taken well over 300,000 pictures.

Wow! That is a great price! If you discount your Orions that deep, be sure to let us know!

I'll be sure to post here, but I doubt I will drop Orions much. My Orion sales/interest is much greater than Apollos for some reason...

Yep, that is understandable. The BuckeyeCam guys are much better engineers than they are marketeers. They own the high-end wireless market, but they seem to be having a hard time breaking in to the stand-alone camera market. I'm not sure why other than marketing. With the quality of the Apollo, it is well worth the market price yet it doesn't seem to have the market penetration. At $400 including and SD card and SLA, it is an unbelievable value.

Thanks,

Jack

I have to agree that this is a really good deal. If we did not already have several of these I would be very attracted to this offer. Can the $400 models have a radio upgrade added ? If so, what is the cost with the radio module added ?

These cameras can be upgraded, total cost before shipping would be $900, shipping from BuckEye to customers is free. A good deal, although these cameras will not come with the free solar panel as my other Orions do.

Anthony,

The best price I've found on the upgrade is $450 plus your cost of shipping the camera back. That would put the total cost for an Apollo upgraded to Orion at $850. You can buy the Orion at Wildview for $799 TYD so it is cheaper to buy the Orion directly. However, if I was not familiar with BEC and wanted to get my hands on one and try it out before committing the money to go wireless, buying one of these $400 Apollos would be the way to go. If you've already got the wireless setup, buying the Orion directly is a better deal.

If I were still buying standalone cameras, I'd snap up a couple of these!

Thanks,

Jack

I have a feeling the $450 price on the upgrade won't be around much longer...

What do you mean? That they wont upgrade Apollos anymore or that the price will go higher ?

I think a $150 price for the upgrade makes more sense to me. $450 just seems kind of high.

They will still upgrade Apollo's. And I agree $450 is high.

$450 is probably high if you are just looking at component costs. My guess is that this is a business decision. They own the RF market and have essentially no viable competition. I think their intent was to see if they could increase wireless sales by letting folks spread the cost over time. "I'll buy the Apollo this year and if it works well, I'll upgrade it and then buy Orions". This is not a bad concept, but I'm not sure it worked. I think as far as pricing goes, they wanted to significantly reduce the price of the Apollo and allow an upgrade path without eating into Orion sales. By allocating about 1/2 the unit cost to the RF module, they accomplish that. I'm not sure what distributors are paying for the units, but I'd be willing to bet that BEC itself makes much higher margins on the Orions than on the Apollo.

Like many high tech companies, these guys are great engineers with outstanding products but translating top notch technology into profit is not often easy for them.

It still amazes me how most camera users would rather pay $200 or less for a camera that has QC issues, and has a life span of 18 to 24 month, but won't pay $600 for a camera with no QC issues to speak of with a life span many times longer. With these Apollos at $400, it is not even a close call!

Of course, at this time of year, it is always hard to sell any existing camera as lots of folks are waiting to see what new things are announced.

Thanks,

Jack
