We need someone to volunteer to accept dead cameras to maintain a bank. THen when someone gets camera stolen they could order a "dead" camera abd use it as a decoy and then set a scoutguard out to watch the decoy.

How bout you BusyBee ???? :D

Guys, what are your thoughts on this idea ?

I think GSM already beat you to it. They seem to maintain a bank of sick, dead, and dying cameras! :D

Seriously, it is not a bad idea.

Thanks,

Jack

Hey Im game for almost anything :D
I got an idea  Im gonna check to see if its cost efficient to order Scout Guard Bodies(nothing inside) and offer that cheap as decoys.

What do you think?

If you're using SGs for real cameras, I'd use the bodies of much bigger cameras as decoys. No sense in tipping the thieves what to look for. Second, it would need to be real enough for them to steal it and not know. If they realize it is a dummy, they will immediately start looking for a camera. I dead camera, on the other hand, would do the job.

Thanks,

Jack

Hummm... Sounds like a promotion opportunity to me! Buy and SG, send in your old camera and get an X% discount. Sell the dead cameras as dummies for the same X% plus shipping. I'm not sure if there is enough markup on the SGs to cover this, but you could apply it to a camera/bracket/SD/python combo or something like that.

Just a thought...

Jack

Yes...sounding good... keep talking... :D

Once we get this worked out I can post a permanent link on the home page to urge people to donate old cameras too to build up the bank.

I'm getting ready to use an old Stealth 35mm for just that... You can get the old Stealth's for next to nothing. I've been seeing them on E-bay and Craigslist...like a lot of 6 for $50, etc.

I plan to place a nice "note" in the "decoy" came too.

Why not just make up some cheap homebrew 'cases' and glue a piece of 2x4 inside for weight to simulate a camera. A cheap lock on the front and strap it to a tree. Sounds like a new business opportunity for some of you talented homebrew folks.
