Assuming the battery life was the same, like maybe always hooked up to a solar panel that would keep the camera fully charged, do would prefer regular flash or infared flash?

I chose flash. Animals seem to react(spook) about as much to one as the other by most reports. Theft risk is a greater issue with flash to be sure. Now "true" IR is another story in both regards...but pic quality is pretty bad with true IR at this point.

Why do you want IR? Is it to frighten the animals less or so people don't notice it as much or something else?
You will get a lot of different opinions but after a few years I now don't really think the white flash frightens the animals more than IR. Some are scared of either one and some aren't. I just try to set my cameras up high angled down and that doesn't seem to bother them as much. Check with me in a few years and I may have changed my mind again though.

Yeah I sometimes feel like an idiot, because I choose flash hands down over IR. However you have to remember I am on property where I don't have to worry who sees the flash (no one can come steal my camera). I personally just like color pictures that you get with flash as opposed to IR.

Are you guys able to vote? I voted in the poll for flash, but I am hoping my vote didn't close the poll. If you can't please let me know and I will relist this.

I voted for Flash too.Only thing I like about IR is where theft is a concern.Other than that I hate it.Bears do too. David

IR delivers poor picture quality and is just as noticeable to the critters as flash. Bears seem hugely interested in IR cameras all other things being equal. I want to see colors, especially with the bears.

White flash for me too. :P I actually notice less camera avoidance with white flash, and the color night pictures are sure a lot nicer. I never have to worry about camera theft; I guess if I did have to worry about theft, I'd reluctantly choose IR.

I went IR specifically for theft purposes. I own 30 acres mostly field so I am on my neighbors properties. After purchasing a homebrew S600 I am convinced that white flash does not scare deer like those stupid red blob cameras do. I have since went with black flash as the only viable alternative, despite the lack of color and blurry pics.

If I owned my own 1200 acre parcel, it would be a different story. I would probably own all white flash cameras and beg Reconyx to make a white flash model....LOL

I would vote for IR Flash but with a true flash and not the LED's. You get alot more light out of a flash than with leds.

I feel the same way! But I also like my BLACK FLASH BUSHNELL for excellent daytime pics/videos and theft avoidance. I have two cameras of each type.

I don't think flash bothers critters much but to say IR is just as noticeable is false. If the critter is walking away or is not looking at the cam it will not see little red dots but walking away or not looking at the cam it will see the flash.
