Not sure if anyone has their Scoutgaurd out in some cold temps...I recieved mine just over a week ago. I live in ND and it has been quite cold. Temps ranging from +20 to -10. I have taken 350 pics in that time, and the camera seems to be operating flawlessly!! I am using 8 AA baterries, and when I changed the card today, the batteries seemed to be fine yet!! I will continue to keep you updated on this cold test..take-care, Mike

The rating for the Scoutguard 550 (and probably yhe others too) temperature wise is -4 to +140 degrees F from what I've found on their website.
I'll know soon enough I guess. I have some on order and will be testing them out for myself.

I have my SG and I40 both set up on my back yard feeder after moving them in from the woods last weekend. It was -17 this morning. I will check them this weekend and see if I have any photos from last night.

Good to know. You guys and your funny Fahrenheit measurements got this Cdn guy all confused for a second there. The cam I just got will be seeing some -20 days for sure, but not to many here in SW Ontario. That's -20 Celcius. Hope it can take the pain and keep on working. I beleive -20C=-4F. :) Celcius makes so much more sense. Water freezes at 0 and boils at 100. Well whatever, you guys aren't gonna switch over after all this time :)

SG550 took this video yesterday at 5:30 am. I don't know what the temperature was then, but it was 17 below farenheit when I checked at 7:00 am. It seems to work fine in very cold temps.

The last couple weeks my SG550 has been working quite well between 0 F and 35 F. I've probably taken ~1200 pics in the last couple weeks and have not had any issues to date. My Moultrie I40 on the other hand just quit working when temps got down in the single digits and the battery life was still at about 45 - 50%. So, the SG550 is out performing my Moultire once again...

Sorry, but I ended the cold test!! Felt sorta bad for my new trailcam!! It is brutal up here!!! I took it down after 2 weeks. Over 600pix, and the battery indicator still shows 3/4 power. Wish it was still out there, but the 200 bucks I have into it is hard earned!! Will be back up this spring. Hope all is good with everyone. Now if HCO wants to send me another one..I will gladly put it out and continue the test???? it gets quite brutal here in ND!!!! Thanks everyone for making this a super informative site!! Mike

Well, I have reached the point where the camera didn't work either through electronics or batteries. The night before last it got down to about 7 or 8 below. About a third of my 10s videos the IR went out about 2/3 of the way throught the video. Last night I had 35 videos where the IR emmitters didn't come on. It was 18 below. The battery shows 2 bars and when I brought it inside and tested it, the emitters worked. I also am going to keep it inside until warmer weather.

My wife is in charge of all my trail camera cold weather tests. She puts them in the freezer and catches me going for the ice cream! So, if you've got one that doesn't work in the cold, send it to me. I'm hungry!

I thought I might jump in here guys, I'm looking at getting my first digital and the sg550 looks great but I'm wondering about the best battery option. This 6v external? I have 6v rechargeable batteries that I use for my motorized duck decoys and it is 4.0Ah. Is this the same thing? I'm assuming all I would need is the wire for the camera and a way to keep this battery somewhat protected with the camera. Thanks for any help.
