Quick question on the SG550 and SG560 - What are the differences between the SG550 and the SG550V? Also differences between the SG560 and SG560V? I have been scouring the board with no definite answers. I am assuming that it is upgraded software? I am having issues with BTC's and decided it is time to look at something different. Obviously the SG560 looks to be what I am going to purchase. Kind of wish the uway's were out as they would be a serious contender. Thanks for the help.

The V has a small screen to view pictures.

The only dumb question is one that is never asked. I had to ask when it first came out too.I am in the process of ordering the Scoutguard 560 and the XtendIR-1 to go along with it.David

I could be wrong, but I believe that the V designates that the remote has a color LCD and the other has a black & white remote LCD.

Yes, T-Post is correct. V stands for color viewer, otherwise the remote has a menu only B&W panel.

A B version (560B) uses the a new DSP which gives better picture (especially night)
quality. The original 550 has been in the market for over three years now, so the reliability has been proven.

Actually, 560 has only a B model (560B), while 550 has a 550 and 550B model,
though 550B is mainly sold in other countries.

550B/560/570/580 all use a new DSP which gives better picture (especially night) quality, while 550 uses the original DSP and design and is therefore more proven in the field.

570 is leaner than 550 and uses only 4 AA bateries, in case size and weight is concerned.

580 will first have two models, 580M with GSM capability and 580P without.

Thank you for ordering! :)

Generally speaking, if price is same, newer models will have better quality,
but less proven in the field. But as long as you are buying from authorized dealers, you should be ok.

I have had 2 of the 550's that is coming on to two years old now. They have been workhorses for me.Out there taking pics and videos 24/7. If the 560 comes even close to doing what these 550's have done I will be a very, very happy feller. David

David,

By any standard, 550B/560 are an upgrade to the original 550. In addition,
all BMC cameras are upgradable by firmware download. That means, if any problem
is caused by software, all you have got to do is to email your distributor and ask for the latest firmware. But don't do that unless you feel the need to.

So hope you enjoy the new 560.

B stands for the Second generation of Scoutguard products. It is associated with
the second generation of DSP, which is a short name for Digital Signal Processor.

New product releases this year are all B models. Additionally, there might be other symols like V, M, P, F, each of which characterizes a prominent feature. For example, V stands for Color Viewer, M stands for mobile connection, P stands for Professional Grade, F stands for (white) flash.

These symbols may be used together, like the 560VB model. B is typically omitted if the same ID has no A (non-B) model.
