I'm using an AT&T GoPhone; here's my "profile configuration settings". As far as I know, your settings should be exactly as below, EXCEPT you would use your your own cell phone number and email address (I've added bogus info for illustration purposes).

It has been awhile since I set mine up and I did mine via my computer rather than with the camera remote.
If I remember correctly; turn your camera off, remove your SD card, put the card in your computer's card reader, double click on a folder named "profile", then type in the same info that I used.

You're probably right about doing something wrong...I just don't know what it could be. :(

If you haven't already done it....download and print the manual at this link:
http://www.hcodealer.com/download/sg580 ... manual.pdf
It'll be a lot easier to read than the little manual that comes with the camera. Carefully read through the manual, step by step...maybe you'll stumble across what the problem is.

This is just a "shot in the dark," but . . .
Q: I have all the settings correct. The camera will show sending, but I am not receiving anything.
A: Please turn on the password protection on your camera and try again. The default factory password is 0000.

The above is the last item on the SG580M FAQs page at HCOdealer.com, <http://www.hcodealer.com/faq.php?cID=5>.

Hope it helps.

I remember when setting up my 580 I would Format my SD card in my laptop to delete Pics and that would erase my Settings: E-Mail and Phone # . I only delete pics with remote and the SD card in camara.

Larry,

I don't know what error 85 is....sounds like you need to call or email HCO tomorrow...I bet they'll have you up and running in no time at all....I've always been very impressed with HCO Customer Service. :P

One thought; If you bought the camera used, perhaps there is some sort of data remaining in the camera from the previous owner's SIM card that is causing a conflict with your SIM card?

One more thought; Can you put the SIM in the GoPhone and sucessfully send a text message? If not, there's your problem...no texting package associated with your GoPhone plan.

Cameras were brand new from yohemounts.

Pat,
what color is the sim card you are using..

Im going to call hco and ask what the error 85 is...im betting its my card or settings..I trouble shoot for a telecom company here in pittsburgh. Ive pretty much eliminated everything except going and buying new go phone..or maybe try tmobile...both cameras do same thing...so i doubt its the cameras.

As best as I can recall, my SIM card is predominately white, with some blue and orange writing on it.

The GoPhone that I got was a $19.99 Samsung flip phone.

Have you tried using the SIM from your personal cell phone?
