I got them working then they quit. Hco blames it on my settings. how can it work..then you turn it off then back on and not work without changing settings. I went invested at least 15 hours of my own time trying to get these things to work consistantly. I spent around 100$ of my own money trying to get them to work. I was so excited when the one cam worked i would have thought my 2nd child was born. haha..but i then turned cam off and back on and would never send another pic "that was on my 3rd sim card." I believe my first sim card was bad. It was mostly blue and from a nokia phone " which i read online has some issues with unlocking the pin"....Im not a big fan of the product. without the cell function working consistanlty the camera to me is average and for 330 dollars average dont cut it. When a company comes out with a newer improved model...ill try it again..

Darn...sorry to hear about all the problems...the whole thing just doesn't make sense...I wish we were neighbors so that I could try to get them working for you.

The good news is that there will be a MMS version of the ltl Acorn available as early as next month. :!: :P :!: The specs look very good...especially the ability to choose the size of transmitted picture! My biggest gripe with the 580M is the small and poor quality transmitted picture; the ltl Acorn stands to become the front runner in nothing flat.

I have multipal 580M,s and figured out that the PIR sensor does not seem to work well in cold weather, or any weather actually. I was led to believe before I purchased that they could sense up to 35 feet and I have bait at 21 feet. All seemed to be well in warm weather at this distance but no pics on the SD card in 2 days on the older camera and 2 pics on the new one, and the bait is wiped out every night. 20 to 30 degrees F. I have had the sense level to hi, normal and low and no change. When I moved the bait closer to the camera it seems to work at 15 feet or less but all I get are rear ends up in the air or partial shots of deer. It is frustrating. This is not good.
And yes I have new lithium ultras and Sandisk cards. Hummm.

They do seem to email a pic now and then if they take any. I have external antennas. The 3rd camera I have delivers pics 4 times larger than the first 2 cameras and all 3 are only a month old. I was not given an option for a firmware upgrade on the first 2 so I will need to check into that.

Any tips, tricks or magic will be appreciated.
Thanks

Are you saying that your 3rd camera never sends the smaller size pictures, even in bright sunlight? If so, that's awesome!

Yes, I have the same sensing problem with my SG580M. My solution is to move the camera to within 4 yards of the bait. This also makes the deer big enough that you can zoom into the picture for more detail, without the deer getting all pixelated.

I just looked and the latest camera I received emails 640x480 and appears as about 4x larger in physical space it takes up on my notebook screen. I have not had any in sunlight yet.

The problem with moving the bait closer to my camera or vice-versa is some deer seem to be bothered by the glow and I wanted to keep it back as far as possible. Also, the primary reason that I purchased 2 of these was to monitor logging truck activity from 30-35 feet and had no idea that it is only good for 15 feet *at best* in cold weather.

I put one of these on a tree just above a 100 dollar Primos in *warm* weather and the Primos recorded 24 pics to my 4 on the SD card.

Son of a.... biscuit.

What sense level do you set yours at?

I have to give credit to the HCO tech dept they are courtious and try to answer my questions and concerns.

I have to set the PIR on my SG580M to "High" to get decent triggering here in Texas, where it never gets all that cold..

Keep us posted as to whether your newest camera only sends 640x480 pics. It has been rumored that the SG580s manufactured since September have been upgraded to send only 640x480 pics. The distributors here in the US deny any knowledge of this, which is understandable, because they would want to sell all of the older version first.

Yes, a 640x480 picture will be 4 times the size of 320x240 picture. Think of it as 12" floor tiles...one tile would be 12"x12"...if you made a square using four 12" floor tiles, it would be 24"x24". As the outside dimension doubles, the inside area quadruples.

Here you go, a pic emailed off the new 580 and the older 580. I notice it really struggles to send these larger pics and tends to fault out allot mostly due to signal strength I suspect.
I didn't think the new cam had emailed recently but I found that it did to my other account...a couple. I switched SD cards and it was setup to go there.. 2 is better than nothing. I have my facts straight on it now.
Cannot put much bait out at any one time but I moved it to less than 15 feet so I hope things pick up a little bit. We'll see.

In my case, after thinking about it, I am probably better off with the lesser resolution camera due to signal issues although the external antenna helped.
The best upgrade they could apply to this thing IMO rather than a larger picture is a better PIR sensor, or the software that interprets it.

At 15 feet the cameras are working pretty good now for deer cams. I have the intravel set to 20 seconds and the sensitivity set to high.

I've found that my MMS cameras are more stable (reliable) when the interval is set at a time of 1 minute or more. I think this is because there's no way the camera can transmit a picture in less than a minute. The same would hold true if you were "texting" a picture from your phone to a friend.

Good info Pat, I need to understand what actually happens if the camera snaps another pic before the last pic is transmitted. Does it abort the transmit and restart another until it is not interupted or does it transmit and any other pictures taken during this time are not transmitted? Would all pictures taken in a 20 sec intravel be stored on the SD card regardless of the transmit status?
I see that some come in, in as little as 00:01:21 apart and movement is triggering the camera repeatedly but I have not looked at the SD card yet.
Thanks

I'm not completely sure what happens with the pics that are taken while one is being transmitted. As best I've been able to tell, most of them get written to the SD card and some just vanish.
