I see this new model is out. Does anyone have one yet? Looks like it may have under a second trigger time, extra-long sensor and flash, possibly the same size as the regular 560's and on-board programming! Any thoughts?

A few of us saw it on ebay a month back, for $280. No one has one yet as far as I know. More than I want to pay. and a new ebay dealer. Once the reputable dealers have them in stock someone will buy them.

the most info i have saw is contained in stovepipe699,s topic anyone buy the new ones yet. the one overseas review brought into question some motion blur and ir burn. i will be watching to see how those issues play out.the question i would like a answer to is the duration of the flash. whether a cam is blackflash or red flash this should be a relevant question. i believe that on the scoutguard site this cam will have a 2 year warranty. truly hazelvillebucks

I've played with some of these. I can't comment on the trigger speed but can tell you the new PIR is impressive. The ones I tested did not have the tinted led lens and the leds were slightly visible. I'd imagine the tinted lens has eliminated the remainder of the visible light.

[Edit by Anthony: This is direct marketting by a manufacturer and should be isolated to the Vendor self-Promotion forum]

Here are some basic facts about SG560K-8M and why it is superior to Reconyx HC600:

1. SG560K-8M uses a genuine 5MP sensor and interpolates it 8MP in high quality, while
HC600 uses a 2MP sensor and interpolats it to 3MP/4MP. HC600 is simply not a match when it comes to picture quality.

2. With a lower resolution, HC600 has intrinsically gained 5.3MP/2MP = 2.65x sensitivity.
In addition, HC600 uses a 40 degree narrow viewfield lens (though high quality, from German?),
while SG560K-8M uses a 52 degree regular lens. Again, by eliminating the spot-like effect
with the reduction of view field, HC600 gained an additional 1.2x or so brightness. Yet,
SG560K-8M beats HC600 hands down with both brightness and illumination range, by a far
margin. More like 70%-100%.

3. HC600 has a narrow detection angle (about 35 degree), so to match the view field angle, with
a typical detection range of 14M. So its detection area is proportional to 14x14x35.
While SG560K has a typical detection range of 25M and a detection angle of 60. So its detection
area is proportional to 25x25x60, more than 5x of the HC600.

4. For Black IR cameras, video is difficult to achieve useful quality. SG560K-8M's video is just as good as its picture, again beating HC600 hands down.

5. While HC600 has a faster trigger of 0.3-0.4 second, what's the use of that if SG560k-8M
has a detection range of 25M? An olympic champion has only a maximum speed of 10M/second.
The 1 second trigger time of SG560K-8M is just perfect so to capture the fast moving object in the center of the viewfield. In most cases, SG560K-8M has already finished picture taking even before all other cameras wake up!

At least, SG560K-8M is not losing this to HC600.

6. Other things are just obvious: camera cost, size, battery life and cost.

Here's a link to someone who says these vids are from the SG560K-8M.
I'm not impressed if this is true.

If those are indeed from the same camera then I would have to say that the video quality pales in comparison to the Bushnell 466C but is certainly better than my HC600s video...oh that's right, it doesnt do video. I would like to see how the night pics look though. Maybe thier still shots would be better than the Reconyx cams. I like competition. It forces other companies to up thier game and we all get better results.

Have the current scoutguard cameras developed thier sensors to operate better in cold climates?
I know my older SG550s perform dismally when the temps drop. These were one of the first to hit the market. The small size, long battery life, and fast flash on their flagship SG550 model definately made the industry take notice and my hat is off to them.

I only hope they have improved in the sensor area.

The blurb states this has an all new sensor with a sensing range of 85ft.

Sorry about the diagram size........ I borrowed it!

Thanks for posting the diagram here, Bluesman.

From the diagram you can see, if the range is 2x, whether it is a detection or illumination, then typically 4x area is covered, and you typically need 4x more energy to do that.

For those who are still struggling to deliver acceptable quality for 40 feet (for either detection or illumination or both), the game is over. Their only chance is to go back to the Chunky size and put 4x more LEDs and batteries in the camera, but nobody is buying those any more.

The SG560K-8M has two video options, One uses 24 LEDs to save power, and the other uses 40 LEDs.
If the user did not know this, he may have used the 24 LED option, and of course the video quality is degraded.

I guess what I'm saying is that it doesnt really matter if the sensor is as wide as a footbal field if it doesnt trigger in cold weather. I am not sure why the cold affects it. Most cameras trigger better in cold weather so it must be something mechanical that is being influenced by low temperatures.

Yes David, it has been a warm winter for sure this year. The bears arent even napping now.... :(

scoutguard you posted earlier that your blackflash cam was good at ranges of 18 foot to 75 foot. with pictures closer having the possibility of ir burn. i saw somewhere that your red flash model 550p-8m is employing a cover over the irs that is supposed to diffuse the light and should help ir burn at closer range.if you could comment on this. also i would like to know 1: how long your ir stays on when your cam takes a picture and 2 does the ir,s stay on the whole time it takes to shoot a 5 picture burst. also i would think that you would want to give a 5 year warranty with a cam costing 280 dollars. truly hazelvillebucks
