Don't know what the plastic sliding thing is but you will need one along with the longest shoe string you can find. I think mind is 48" or so.

Next I bought some el cheapo Tupperware type container. They were 3 for $3.29 and hold the battery which is right at 6" wide, 4 1/4th" tall and about one and a half inches thick.

Drill two holes ( One on each side) close to the top of the box large enough to run your shoe string through and drill one at the bottom ( or top) for your power cable and a few for drain holes at the bottom. Camo it up some and you have a external battery that can be strapped to a tree. I plan to power my Uway Xtendir-B's with this setup and you can get the cable from Anthony.

That right there is a cord lock, specifically a barrel type, flat-top cord lock. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cord_lock>

I knew there was a particular name for those, but I didn't know what it was until I went Googlin' for it. (Yes, I am easily amused. )

Clever idea, Bobcat. Image

Ha, so they are called cord locks. Thanks!! That's what I use along with a shoe string to hang all my cameras and of course I add a Python also. Most cameras come with the big dark mounting straps that stick out like a sore thumb!

Original idea, looks pretty good. How are you going to keep the water from running down the cord and into the holes which have been cut into the side of the box though? A bungee cord wrapped around the outside of the container (over the lid and everything) might be a little more water tight and still hold it to the the tree.

I have the cord hole drilled at the bottom along with smaller holes for water drainage. The lids on these fit tight and I can't see them popping off or leaking. They had some stronger boxes but they were like $5-7 apiece buy they may be the best route to go with.

Besides, a sealed-lead battery has a solid one-piece plastic housing up to the battery contacts, so you just need to keep water from flooding up to that height. Rain dripping in the sides and out the bottom drain shouldn't be a problem.

Dielectric grease on the contact will help protect them.
