Ok, not really, but lots of them in my '10 BTC. The plastic battery port cover came out and the ants set up a nest in there. On top of that, the camera filled up a 2 gig SD card in several days. I had to take the insides of the camera apart to get all of the ants out. I am hoping that the ants were triggering it by crawling across the sensor. We shall see.

I noticed that one of the other BTC's had that little cover broken off. I guess I will caulk them all shut next time out.

Warning: make sure those ports are covered or you could end up with a real mess.

If the ants crawl across the PIR sensor it will cause this to happen. Just read about it somewhere else. You are correct, keep the hole plugged!

I carry a can of Permanone in my trail cam bag. A quick squirt every month or so will keep them and other insects away. One of my Scoutguards has been without the gasket for over a year without any problems!

Good suggestion. I will try it out.

All appears to be in working order again. I'm glad I didn't have a true "runaway" camera.

This just happened to mine as well. Do you think the ants would or could eat the plastic plug. I didn't notice this being damaged when I set it up. Can I do any harm by opening it up? They were in the battery terminal area too. I see where I could open that up as well. Any suggestions. I think I hear that any work done would void warranty. Could they really see that work was done?

Put the cam in the freezer for a few days to kill any remaining ants or eggs.

I just took out the four screws that hold the board in, layed it over and then did the same to the LED panel. I can't see where there are any tape or indicators that would clue them in to the board being unscrewed. Of course, there very well could be and I just don't see it.

The way I see it, I didn't do any work on it. I just took took some screws out. Those dang ants were in every nook and cranny in there.

This is definately an area of design that could use some improvement.

Oh yeah, if you don't want to take it apart I think you can motivate them to move by handling the cam and moving it in general. I did notice that they were attempting to move eggs out of the cam after I had let is sit for a time intially. I just didn't have the patience to leave them to their own devices cause they pissed me off.

Ditto that. I shook it lightly to make them move out. There was a load of eggs. I could still see some inside by the LED's. They really feel safe inside by the battery terminals. The can get in on the left side of the battery compartment and it is hard to get hem out w/out taking it apart. I will put it in a bag and freeze it then I will have to see how it functions.

So once it has been in the freezer and I have lightly shakin' it to get the eggs and ants out do I also try and open it up to make sure there is nothing left in there? Or should I just test it and see if hte unit will work and if it does leave it alone?

If the ants are dead I would think you'd be good. I don't know if freezing ants will kill them or not. I wonder if there are eggs in there if other ants will be able to sense their presence with their super duper ant sensing powers and try to get in? :?

Either way, I doubt Bushnell would do warranty work anyway if they could blame it on the ants in the cam. I bet they would say you are SOL for letting them get in there.

I personally wouldn't want all those yucky eggs and dead ant bodies in there lying next to my mother board electronics.
