This is the first problem of this kind I have experienced. Not sure if it is a known kink in the armor in the bushnell line. Yesterday after checking the camera from a week in a prime turkey area there were no videos whatsoever. Not even me setting the cam or checking it. I tried a different card even though I have been using the same cards with this camera and its twin sister cam for a year now. On video or still shots, the camera seems function normal, it just doesnt write to the card. In test mode, the red light will blink when it sees motion. So the pir is working. And yes, the batteries are good, only about 2 weeks old, full battery meter on the camera. And they test out as new on my volt meter. The camera will be going back unless someone can enlighten me with some kind of fix. Thanks

UPDATE:

What I didnt notice yesterday was the icon for the sd card has a lock symbol inside of it. The camera thinks the sd card is locked so it wont take any pictures. I have tried 6 different un-locked cards but it still wont work. I used the camera without a sd card and it does take pictures with the internal memory. So the camera will take pictures but I have to try and figure out why it thinks all of the cards are locked. Any ideas??

Are you formatting the card in the 436 or are you using another device? I had an old card that i had to format it in my digital camera then reformat it in the Bushnell to get it to work right for me after I done that it worked fine.

well reaper, I have a question.

question I have is where did you get your SD card from ? I have had nothing but problems with cards purchased from Amazon and eBay. They start out fine, they may even have a brand name on them like Sandisk, they may even be packaged in what appears to be factory packaging, and after awhile, they flake out. evidentally there are really good looking fake cards out there on eBay and Amazon, sold by "reputable" sellers even. I have since ordered all my cards from newegg and don't have a problem. I also hear buying cards from best buy is a really good way to go too, or any retail outlet such as walmart. anyway, its just an idea. and when you said you tried the different card, I assume it didn't write to it either ? that would be strange, even if the cards were fakes to have that happen at the same time. could you have been carrying the cards in your pocket next to a cell phone or something magnetic that would have messed them up ?

glty

Perhaps, not writing to the card isnt the correct diagnosis. The camera wont take a picture or video. As for my sd cards. I have had bushnell trophy cam models since 09,10, and 2011. I have been using Kingston cards since my first 09 camera. And still use some of those cards yet today. I also have a 512mb pny card made in Japan which I have paid $40 for back when they used to cost that much. All my cards work in my other bushnell 436, but non of my cards work in this camera. Everything else on the camera seems to work fine, it just wont take a picture. If I put a card in the camera that has photos or vids on it. The display will show how many photos are taken on that card. The menu also works fine. Trying the camera out in a dark room verifies it isnt working, the IR lights dont come on. Which tells me its not taking pictures for some reason. I would maybe think its a pir issue but in test mode it detects movement.

Reaper , just for the heck of it try these 2 things .

Put batteries in , go to setup and format the card if it lets you . Then go to default settings and click it . Then shut cam off and take out card and batteries then try it again in a few min .

If you have some compressed air in a can , blow the SD card chamber out real good using the straw looking attachment that comes with the can of air . You might have something stuck in there on one of the terminals . Just make sure you dont jam that straw in the SD compartment . It might bend one of the prongs. I had the same issue as you a while ago . After I blew out the SD card slot , it worked fine . I had dropped the sd card on the ground while changing cards. Thought it looked clean . But I guess it wasn't .
It wont hurt to try these 2 things at this point .

Got it fixed, I figured whatever inside the sd slot that see's the card as locked must somehow activated or stuck. I used a flashlight and took a small wire and did some poking around the "lock" side of the chamber. Then took some compressed air in a can (thanks, SportsmanNH) and blew it out. Inserted every sd card I own and they all work as should. Problem adverted.

PS. I was kind of hoping under warranty, bushnell would send me a 437 for replacement :(
I do like the 436's but the video quality is terrible.
