I'm just curious, how long does a typical Reconyx camera last ? I just bought my first one and am hoping to get some good time out of it. How long has everyone had their cameras?

I would think the average life of any trail camera is less than a year. Some here get lucky and get one or two years out of a trail camera.

Reconyx is not your typical camera. I would expect years out of a Reconyx and I know that unlike most other companies they are able to repair their cameras even the older models so u actually get the camera repaired if need be instead of just replaced under warranty. There are several members here who have had their Reconyx cameras repaired out of warranty at little or no cost.

My personal observations are regular cams will last 1 to 2 years and Reconyx will last around 4-5 years or longer.

And like Shenriver said, even if something happens to your Reconyx, they'll usually repair it for little or no cost.

You will get years out of a Reconyx. I have turned 3 of my cameras in for repair. 2 were due to bear damage and on one the main board fried. (this was a used camera that I purchased). I have never been charged a nickel. They even paid emailed me a shipping a label on two occasions.

I know others have had similar experiences and have and still are getting years of performance out of thier cameras....
I do not think one can say anything better than that about a company's products.

He's talking about the el cheapo cams.... You'll get more than your $'s worth from any reconyx. Have five and just sent in my first for repair. Oldest is 5yrs old. I do have 2 el cheapo I40's that are both broken but they still take some pics but they are fading rapidly......

I paid $800 for my RM30 in 2006, and I estimate I have taken close to 700,000 pictures during that time with it, without a hitch. there was one time one of my memory cards got magnetized by a magnet in my pocket (yes, i know thats dumb) and it acted a little screwy, but I formatted the card and it went right back on ticking away.

now since 2006 I have spent countless hundreds of dollars on cameras in the $200 range only to be left high and dry by them typically after a couple of years. my old 2009 scoutguard sg550 $180 albeit amazing gave up the ghost last year and they wanted $90 to replace the board, and my 2007 series bushnell is completely shot. my $329 uway NT50B's have flaked out. I bought a $229 StealthCam i230IR that turned into a piece of junk after two years, and not to mention all the headaches of these crappy cams, with just the lost investment. meanwhile the RM30 has been a workhorse.

I haven't bought a HC series camera yet, but I plan to. I have a hard time in my mind thinking the HC can actually be better, take pics in color, and cost almost half of what my RM30 did, but I guess that's thanks to competition helping to lower the price.

recently though my 466 bushnell has been very reliable, but only in the field for a year. I think if the HC500 can be had for $450 and it works like my RM30 its an absolute deal, that being said bushnell and covert seem to be putting the heat on reconyx, but will those companies service stand up to Reconyx ?

Maybe 1.5-3 years without some type of factory repair.

I will say that my Cudde Capture is going on 4 years of 24/7/365 service. The only problem it ever had was a bad SD card slot which was repaired. Oh and it eats batteries like there's no tomorrow.

I've got several Reconyx that are three years old, two that are five years old and one that is six years old. Incredible.

Also incredible are Buckeye Cams. Those things just will not stop taking pics. I sent an original Buckeye Cam in for a gasket repair this year. They replaced all the gaskets, re-coated the board, updated the software and did all sorts of nice little tweaks for me. No charge. The cam is five years old and works like it is brand new. WOW.

I will not buy any other trail camera than a Reconyx. My RC-60 I got back in June 2008 is still out in the woods & going strong.I can not tell you how many thousands of pictures I have taken with it. All the other cameras I have had are in the junk pile.

well up, I would have tested yours anyway. I test all cameras I get just to make sure I inserted the sd card right, or that the batteries even though may have been new out of a package all tested good or what not, I hope it works out for you.

We have been running our Reconyx cameras continuously in the field since 2008. They work exactly like they did the very first day.

I am going on year 3 with my HC500 running it 24/7/365 in the WI weather. Other than an initial filter problem when first bought I have gotten great performance out of it since. There service was outstanding. No other cam can touch it although I have not used the Buckeyes yet. Probably won’t as I am very happy with Reconyx.
