I have enjoyed reading about the comparisons between the Little Acorn, Scout Guards, and Reconyx cameras. I was hoping people could post what they think all of it means as far as which cameras are capable of what, and which one looks to be the best. It seems pretty obvious to me that the Reconyx cams are the gold standard, but many of us cannot afford them so I am more interested in the other cams (550, 560, 570, Little Acorn).

Thanks,

Catman,
There is no one size fits all answer to your question. All I can say is you have to really read what others are saying about thier experiences and draw your own conclusions. I would not call Reconyx the "gold standard". It is certainily one of the MOST reliable cameras in terms of quality and trigger speeds, but it lacks those framable pics that others desire. Plus it hurts your wallet immensely. The Ltl Acorn is really a great camera at a great price in the IR lineup. But if it's videos your after, then you really need to look at maybe a Uway product as they have some of the nicest, plus it has sound. a lot of others do not. Maybe you need small, that is where scoutguards reign supreme. If your deer are very wary, or you need to use it for surveilance, then a black flash may be in order.

No one here has every camera model at thier disposal, so you have to sift through what other people are telling you. Figure out what your needs are and then read, read, read.

So, go out and buy a Ltl Acorn......LOL

I thought about this a bit so I will add my 2 cents concerning the test thus far.

HCO scoutguard cameras seem to function well until the temperatures goes below freezing.
No one has done a head to head test in warm weather yet and I expect it will be a least a few months before it's possible.
I am sure the results would be way more favorable.

The Ltl Acorn shines in Pic quality and seems to flourish in extreme cold weather. Heck it may really shine in warmer climes.
Videos off this camera were described as "acceptable" by one of our members here. I find that to be a very apt description.
Though in truth, there are other cameras that put it to shame in that department.

Hope I have helped somehow.

Reconyx and homebrews pretty much rule the roost...other cams can be acceptable alternatives.

Thanks for the replies guys, I really appreciate the insight.

Chasing Game is an awesome website and has so much information that I seem to think myself around in a circle at times. In reading the camera VS camera threads I was thinking I had to buy a little acorn and ditch my SG's. Then on one of the later threads it looked like the 560 photos were a bit better and the pic count on the trails was nearly the same (no feeding in my state).

I am glad to hear the responses here because I spent the weekend reading all about the home brews. I had written them off when I got into the trail cams because I thought they would be less reliable and kind of a hassle. Now I am pretty excited that I can get great photos and photo counts similar to Reconyx for half the price. Only problem is that now I might be getting into a whole new addiction with home brews.

I will probably start my 1st home brew this year and only buy black flash commercial cams (or maybe a SG570 since the price dropped:).

Thanks again,

I agree.

Looking forward to trying out the new cudde attack flash model as a commercial alternative to homebrew.
