Is it getting to late to do any coyote hunting, I mean will the hides still be suitable for mounting, or will their winter coats be gone? Thanks Jason

depends on the weather where you are...around here the should be good for another month(some years later), but as warm as it stayed and is getting I think they are going to start turning sooner...you'll be able to notice easily if they are shedding winter fur, just like deer...however IMO keep hunting if you can...it will help the prey population and new yotes will move into territory vacated by the previous residents later this spring or at least by next winter anway. Especially if it is good/prime territory(if you have a lot of yotes - it's prob'ly good).
BTW this is getting to be the best time to get them...with mating season starting up and lots of roamers.

Mating season started about mid feb, they don't respond to distress calls as much, but they still will come in to distress. Coyote vocals are good especially female.

Searching howls, greeting howls...they just started mating season last week or so here. Fur is still prime but supposed to be above 60 this week and has been pretty warm already gonna speed things up...our season runs til april 15 and the pelts used to be good til then but don't look good for this year.

Well just think about it this way. You know that big wall hanger super buck that you were going to have hanging over your fireplace 4 years from now? You know the one that was going to keep his genetics going ?
You can FORGET IT ! It was all a dream cause he was eaten by coyotes when he was born .

They have to eat too, same as me. I'm not wasting an animal, simple as that.

I put down a nice Male Coyote that had a real nice Winter Coat about 2 1/2 weeks ago....as mentioned it won't be long and they won't be worth messing with since we're geting all this early warm weather and rain.We have until the the end of March then our Coyote Season will end in April and start back up in early May some time?

I respect Your thoughts on not wanting to waste an Animal....here in Missouri the Doe's will be dropping Fawns some time in late May,June and July so any Coyote taken out might save a new born Fawn so its kind of a tough decision to put down a Coyote that You won't use the hide/pelt on but the Coyotes don't care if they kill a young defenseless Deer so I don't feel too sorry for them if I happen to put a hole in one! :D ;)
