Great work slay! It's not easy when you really get down to analyzing it is it???!!!

I'd love to see both the cams on a trail with both cams set to the minimum (Zero) delay.

Perhaps your right. Would that be giving the Reconyx an unfair adavantage in an already fixed fight?
I'm serious here. Should I put it on as low a delay as possible?

Question- Would one camera at 5 MP and the other at 12 MP affect recovery time between pictures?

Would the Acorn recovery time to capture 12 MP of data delay the reset "count down" longer for the next picture?

Could this affect picture count?

Thats a great question also.
I just don't know. I wouldnt think it would delay the interval more than a few seconds longer either way though.
Does a SDHC card write faster? Do flash pics delay the interval? Is the camera's image processor better in one?
It's far easier to test a model camera against an identical camera or even it's predacessor (earlier model)

As you know I had a lot of fun testing this camera already. My heart tells me that the Ltl Acorn is doing what it is designed to do extremely well. But I realize I need to scrutinize my results more closely. The public wants more than a casual user tossing some corn on the ground parading pretty pictures around.

I didnt want to approach this as a work assignment, but in reality it takes a lot of careful planning and analyzing.
When I do a trail test, I will set them both to 5MP with 2 pics every 10 seconds. That ought to be fair to any processor speeds I think.

I was going to say the same thing about delay. For trails 1 sec delay makes a huge difference in where the deer is at if it continues walking. I say unleash the cameras and use to full capabilities! Also, it is unfair in my opinion to say you got “X” more pictures of tails and noses with th ereconyx over whatever camera when you have a delay of 1 min. between pics. As you mentioned the sensing of the Reconyx is spectacular. Because of that you get a lot of pics of deer just entering the frame as well as leaving. Because of the speed of the Reconyx I think you need to set it to take more than one pic every trigger if you are going to have a delay between events. Because of this I always have my HC500 set to either 3 pic burst or 5.

Thanks Slay for the test results! As soon as I get my Little Acorn I will be putting it up against my HC500 as well just to see the difference between the two. It should also show me how I need to set up my Little Acorn in terms of short comings on trails. They will both be set on a trail.

That Little Acorn takes some great pics! Hopefully the reliability is there with this camera as then it will be the low end cam to compete with!

Yeah...I'd say let them both go full tilt, at their maximum abilities, and see what happens.

Hmm...I am gonna make a poll and let everyone else determine what delay I need.
That would be best.

I've never had my hands on either camera, but is the acorn's minimum delay setting not zero? I will say that I do believe short delay settings do favor the stronger camera, just as long delay settings favor a weaker camera in terms of sensing & recovery. This is not to say that i think that long delays would allow a lesser camera to out perform the stronger one, its just that shorter delays equal more opportunities for the better camera to shine, while longer delays should shrink the differential in results. I would set both cameras at what ever is the lowest common minimum delay for them both. As far as a burst setting, I would just use single pics in any head to head test.

The manual says the Ltl Acorn can take up to 3 pics with zero second delay.
I think your right though. The Reconyx would probably catch a subject coming and going with extra pics due to it's wider sensing range. The Acorn will only have 3 shots in its smaller main sensor range. The HC600 would probably get 2 more pics over the acorn each time a deer crossed its path.

For me, as long as the camera is not missing any deer and is taking multiple pics, I would be happy. If cam X take 5 pics of every deer and cam Y takes 20, cam X would be cool with me if it cost hundreds less than Y.

Black flash is a must for me though.

Thanks for the testing!
