Guys,
Before I begin, let me say right off the bat that I dont own any Reconyx cams, not a single one.
I just got off the phone with Reconyx Customer Service (Thomas) who probably just made a sell.
I explained to him that I have 650 acres here in Alabama and I've spent alot of money on trail cams
over the last 3 years and I had absolutely no confidence in Reconyx or any other trail cam out there.
I called for two reasons guys, first, I wanted to check out customer service and second, ask two important
questions I believe we all want to know the answer to when it comes to trail cams.
First, when I called, I was immediately transferred to customer service and guess what, it wasn't
in INDIA !! So there's a plus right there.
Second was my questions. "Why would a company who charges $500 bucks for a trail cam only offer a
1 year warranty, doesn't sound like you believe to much in your camera if you ask me." (you have to
add the country twang to it) He said this: The one year warranty is a 'No questions asked' policy.
We do work on our cameras outside of the warranty period unlike almost all your other brands out there
and most times, we don't charge anything if its a mechanical failure. He couldn't say that every time
you send a camera in it will be free, sometimes there is a small fee, basically paying for parts.
And here's what got me, he said this and I quote "We are customer driven and we stand behind our
trail cams." OHHHHHHHH that got me excited right there after calling bushnell this morning and getting
pissed off even more than I was yesterday about my two broke cams less than 2 months old- another story.
Question number 2. Should I expect my camera to fail after a year and if so whats going to be the
problem, in other words, what should I expect to break. He said first of all, we don't have a high
failure rate but the good news is, we still fix cameras that are five years old and if its something
small, we normally don't charge you. Probably the most expensive thing that COULD break is the processor
in the camera and you'd probably be lookin at $100 bucks to fix IF IT BROKE.
That tells me the answers I been looking for. They think their camera is quality and so much so that
they stick a hefty price tag on it and will fix it and in most cases, wont charge you for it. And probably
most important to me is, if the cam does break, they will fix it, not tell me "you have no warranty, go
buy another one!"
I'm done. Let ya know what I decide. I got to sit down with the wife and explain why the checking
account is going to be missing a grand and see how it flies.

OHHH !! AND THOMAS, if you read this (he told me they look at this site too) thanks for the honesty !!
You need a raise bro !

There is definetly a benefit in buying a product with a sales dept and manufacturing/"service" dept that are not half way around the world from eachother.

This should have been posted in the general forum. It might help save someone from throwing away their money on those foreign made cameras. I just don't understand why those other companies keep on over and over dealing with those China manufacturers knowing all they ever get from them is faulty cameras. Those Americans making these decisions might feel different if it was their job that was going to over seas people. They are the real people that need to be replaced. Get rid of them and move manufacturing back to this country and save our landfills.

I like the part where they reccomend that you look at our site.... very confident of them. Also, a breath of fresh air too. some manufacturers would rather we dissapear and are tryiing to do just that.

They are hands down the best in every regard. What you heard on the phone is exactly what I have personally experienced. They make excepional cameras and they will do everything to make something right. I myself have never had a charge for repair, even on one outside it's warranty.

I have a HC 600 "no glow" , it is picture taking machine and works great but the night flash range is advertised "up to 50 ft " . is more like 30 ft. of usable flash. So keep this in mind. ( I am using sanyo eneloop batteries. ) Lithium batteries may do better.
I was a little disappointed with the flash range and night image quality. but you have to give up a little to have black flash.
Maybe someone can post which they like better if they have a 600 and a 500

Just bought my first Reconyx this year and am happy with it so far. The company is actually right down the road from me and I have known Thomas for many years. He's a big time hunter and will treat you right. Go for it. They are worth the investment.

The lithiums will not do better other than lasting longer due to higher capacity, aa eneloops can easily maintain 3 amps of current and deliver 90% + of their rated capacity and they don't complain much at 4 amps either. Lithium aa cannot deliver that kind of current, draw over 2 amps on a lithium aa and the protection circuit kicks in. Good read if you want to know more about lithium primaries and you are at least minorly "geeky": http://data.energizer.com/PDFs/lithiuml91l92_appman.pdf

FYI, the comparison to NiMh in above pdf is just that(NiMh), LSD NiMh reacts differently(better) to both temperature and load at the cost of capacity. While essentially the same chemistry as NiMh, LSD have a different crystalline structure than "normal" NiMh yielding different properties.

I can't agree more. Company has been AMAZING to deal with and without a doubt Thomas is a STUD! Superb customer service.

I am a firm believer in the company motto. "see what you have been missing" I defy anyone to walk past this camera! It's an amazing piece of craftsmanship.

And for the record.. the Professional series cams have a 2 year warranty. PC800 and PC900.

I have four of them. All rock solid and 100% reliable. I keep hoping for lower cost reliability, but so far, I have found lesser cameras are a waste of time and money. Like they say "you get what you pay for"
