I just purchased an M-80 and moved the switch to Aim. The red LED is on the entire time. Is this light supposed to only flash when the camera senses you or does it go from bright to dim? When I'm on AIM, the red light doesn't change brightness as I walk away from the camera. Under the camera mode, I changed the IR Test toggle to ON and tried the aim out the same way. The red LED stayed on the entire time. Is there something wrong with this camera? How is the user supposed to know if the camera is aimed properly if the aim test doesn't provide feedback? At least with the old D40, the user had a red laser dot they could monitor for setup.

How are you supposed to check the Aim on these M-80 cameras?

From the manual:
ON / OFF / AIM SWITCH
Used for turning On, turning Off, or Aiming the camera. When in AIM position the
red LED light on the front of the camera will illuminate. To help find the center field
of view for the camera, stand out in front of the camera and move left or right as you
observe the AIM LED - as you walk away from direct center the LED light will be
less bright. As you walk towards center the LED will appear brighter.

I have an M80 and so far really like it. I only have it in the backyard now for testing. I haven't used the aim yet just looked at a lot of pictures it took as I walked around the yard. That gives you a first hand idea about what it is seeing before it snaps a picture.

The aiming is a bit different that one like the I40 which had a really nice laser on it. You have to focus on the light as you walk in front of the camera. When you notice the aiming light at it's brightest that is the center of the camera. Worked ok the first time I used it. I just eyeball it now as the center of picture is also center of camera.

The "aiming light " is difficult to use with much success . I would prefer a laser too.
I use a laser pointer mounted to a flat washer or I just "eyeball "it
