Just wondering if anyone bought one of the 2012 cams yet? sg560k-8M black flash, long range looks pretty interesting!

The red blob looks pretty cool as well considering it has a vastly improved detection and flash range and the cost is less than the old 560

That being said, I don't think I will buy red blobs anymore.

Looking forward to the reviews on these cameras. I have had a very good experience with HCO Scoutguard since 2008 when I read Anthony's review of the 550 and couldn't stop myself from ordering a few

How have the scoutguards been for reliability up to now? 550's seem well liked, how are the 560's and other models?

My 560 is going strong with no issues. I wonder if the 560M would fit in the security box I have the regular 560 in. I've been switching to black flash and this cam could easily be my next!

In my opinion the SG550 has been one of the more reliable non-Reconyx cams made. I have run a few 550's and 560's since they came out and consider both very reliable. The only problems I have had were exploding/leaking alkaline AA batteries that killed one 550 and later one of my 560's. I also had a tick crawl onto the seal when I closed one up (SG560) and I left it out in the rain for 3 months like usual and water got in and killed the cam. Anyway, HCO is great to work with for repairs/replacements. I have no complaints about my experience and I have more than 10 of their cams.

I am excited about the blackflash but really hope the price comes down when the other distributors get a hold of them. I will not be paying $280 for a cam unless the flash can turn forkhorns into booners :!:

So I guess the only new Scoutguard Camera for 2012 is not wireless?

I hear you, $280 is way out IMO. The deer and coyotes I've gotten on my 466's aren't spooked at all, I've got a video of a deer licking the camera. Coyotes notice my footprints, but not the cam. Just grabbed another new 466, the price was right!

if the cam does what it is supposed to do it would not be overvalued, but even saying that they should come down in price after they are out. scoutguard seems to have a really good name and a history of putting out reliable cams. if it can take a usable picture at 83 foot it will double the distance of the 466 and almost triple the distance of the little 5210-940.if huntin does not fix there problems this cam will become my next hope. maybe it will turn forkies into boonies a nice place to start is with a cam that does not draw attention to itself.truly hazelvillebucks

Check here for a test report on SG560K-8M from North Europe:

I am honestly amazed that all 4 of my SG550s are still function just fine. I have had them for maybe 3 years now and they just keep going. These were the first ones out of the company and have the flashlight effect, but they work extremely well.

They do tend to miss triggering in freezing temps though. Other than that, they are rock solid and reliable in thier design.

Hi Slay,

The Long Range technologies deployed in many of the 2012 Scoutguard cameras are meant to solve two problems: 1) the cold winter and hot summer non-detection issue and 2) the slow trigger issue.

From the test report link above, the Long Range cameras have been very well liked in north Europe due to the long, long winter time.

We had some quality issue in the past, but we are improving in this direction as we have implemented ISO9001-2008 for more than 1 year now.
