The Oklahoma Department of Conservation is soliciting public feedback on a proposal to ban deer baiting on Public land. I offered up my opinion online to keep it legal. If it is declared illegal it will be enforced beginning July 1st.

Here is the web link: It's the one at the very end of the page.

I dont have to read any more on baiting. It's banning will certainly happen. This knee jerk solution to end CWD is a trend that has run rampant in numerous states. It prays upon the fears of old timers who despise baiting because they it's an unfair method of hunting and the well meaning do gooder that seeks to protect wildlife. After that will come the banning of urine based scents for the same reason. Followed closely by the banning of lead shot for hunting game.

OHHHH, if only the we had the disease resistant strain of whitetails like in Texas we wouldnt be talking about it.
Apparently thier deer can withstand the ravages of the spinner and gravity machines that spew forth death daily.

But alas.....we do not

Michigan went thru a 3 year ban based on one CWD deer on a game farm.
The ban was finally lifted this Summer but there are restrictions. There were no other cases found.
Bait is restricted to 2 gallons a day.

Baitin' on public land is already illegal here and has been for awhile... I have seen on ill effect except there are fewer and sometimes larger deer on public...

When I bow hunted a few years ago in Indiana with an outfitter, I was sitting in a stand one morning as it got daylight and I saw something on the ground about 25yrds from me. I couldn't tell what the heck it was. Finally about 2 in the afternoon I got down for a look...still had no idea what it was. Took some back to camp that night in a ziplock and asked the guide. It was acorn rage. I WAS PISSED! I asked him wasn't baiting in Indiana illegal. He said yes, but he didn't worry about it back there. I basically told the jackarse that he didn't get to make decisions for me that might result with me in handcuffs and losing my hunting gear. He said, "Y'all bait all the time down in Texas right?" I said yeah ya BUT ITS LEGAL!!!!

I always hate when someone puts down hunting around deer feeders that have maybe 1-3 pounds of corn on the ground. In the midwest there is corn everywhere on the ground, they are hunting bait too and on a much larger scale. Soy beans, alfalfa, wheat, clover, oats and many other agriculture feilds are bait if you hunt near them. I would rather hunt a feeder and be able to put an eithical shot on a deer standing than shot at a running deer pushed from a deer drive. Fair chase is what you make it and everyone has different opinions about it. When the health of the deer are at stake like from CWD in some areas then not baiting is a no brainer.

Man Ross! That really sucks  . What county was you in and who was the outfitter? I'm not against baiting at all if it is legal but, in Indiana it ain't.

Did a little quick research as it was 4 yrs ago. Guide was Jack Hart and it was Midwest Trophy Hunts. Counties we hunted were Switzerland, Dearborn, Ohio, and Ripley.
