Hi,

I'm new to the forum and to that of the Trail Cam world.

I'm Paul from the UK.

I have a question relating to my Ltl Acorn 5210a.

I'm having trouble with videos not lasting as long as the camera is set to record for. For instance, I set the cam to record for 20s and it records for 2secs. It takes photos fine and it only happens when in IR mode, ie at night.

Would I be right in thinking it is a battery issue?

I've not (as yet) used the extra battery pack and am using 4, albeit High-powered AA batteries. I'm going to try the extra battery pack tonight. However the camera has only recently been doing this with the night videos but it has been relatively cold here (for the UK) in the last couple of nights so its maybe the cold that has tipped it over the edge when on 4 batteries?

Any help / suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks - Paul

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, it is a battery/power issue. I even think the manual indicates that the camera will shorten videos when the battery power is low. I am pretty sure this is based on the voltage sensed on each capture event. With night time captures drawing more power, the ir leds, the voltage drop is greater so the issue shows up first in the night time videos.

Add batteries to the backpack, or use an external 6V battery. I have had best results with an external 6V SLA battery. While I don't have the extreme cold, other users report the SLA does well in in the cold.

My Acorn will not take videos without the back pack installed and loaded with batteries.

Thanks Guys.

Will try again tonight with the cam with the extra batteries to see how I get on.

Want to video a local fox however it's due to snow hard tonight so now i'm undecided as to whether to go for a timelapse!

Decision!

Yes to all above. May as well load it all the way up with fresh batteries. That is an excellent little camera.

Hello All and thanks for the Welcomes.

Cam now outside with the full battery pack, went for a time lapse to catch the snow falling hopefully; have figured the fox will be back at some point and the snow only happens once a year or so!

Will post any interesting photos I get.

Thanks again for the help.

Paul

Welcome to CG, it's a friendly place! It's a little tough on your bank balance, you'll be spending the euros on more trail cams soon.

When/if you consider rechargeable batteries for your ltl-acorn be aware that the unit really does not function well below 5V. This means that the more common NiMH cells don't perform well. As stated above, I have had best results with an external 6V SLA battery, but I have recently being using a set of iGO green rechargeable Alkaline AA batteries with reasonable results. NiMH cells are nominal 1.2v each (4.8v) and the iGo cells are nominal 1.5v each (6V).
