I may have to suck it up and put out some cameras this summer. I was concerned about the darn ticks and chiggers eating me alive. The area I go to has it's lion's share of both.

What do you guys do to keep them off you? I will probably use the 100% Deet.
Bill

I have all my cameras out 24/7/365. Summer is a great time to observe deer. I like tracking antler development on my bucks and watching fawns. I've had them all. Singles, twins and triplets although triplet fawns are rare.

For ticks, I have them on me year-round. Used to be they would not be around at all in the winter but since we have hot winters now, they are out all the time. I just keep checking my pants and pluck them off as they are seen.

Mosquitos are a huge problem here on the island. I have cams all summer in a very remote part that require me to wear a head net and every other square inch of myself as to be covered with clothing saturated with DEET. It's uncomfortable in the heat but it's the only way I can check those cams without being eaten alive.

Don't let the insects stop you from enjoying your cams.

I don't have much of a problem with ticks, I don't even bother to spray. My brother spray's with everything and ends up with seed ticks and regular ticks. I'll pick a few off my jeans, but I just never worry about them. I'm also someone who doesn't get poison ivy. I'll rip it out with my bare hands. My brother gets it and his wife will get it just by walking by it. The problem I have nobody else has is horse flys. They come out of nowhere in the woods and try to land and bite me. Those suckers hurt. No matter where I'm at they find me. Skeeters like me to.

Ticks are rare here since we have a cold winter, aren't a lot of mosquitos here too. There are a lot of deer flies, they have a good bite. The little black flies in the spring are really annoying, Deet helps keep them away.

I have already pulled ticks off me this week here in Mo. and have some chigger bites to boot. Any spray that has deet in it works well.

I put cams on mineral sites here and on a spring we have on one of the farms almost all the cams are set up 10-13 feet up pointed down over the site. Being on these farms every day the deer get used to seeing the same truck. Helps in the fall when the deer see's my truck

As fx4hauler said, permethrin works great! We have a huge problem with Lymes disease here. Several friends, landowners and fellow hunters have Lymes, a couple of which their quality of life will NEVER be normal. We hunt, scout and check cams all year round, so we need protection. I spray all my hunting clothes down, including my face mask and gloves. Let them dry for a half hour and pack them in an air-tight bag. Do not spray it directly on yourself! The other thing that really helps is tall rubber hunting boots. I always keep them in my truck and slip them on before hitting the woods to check my cams or scout. Along with protection from bugs, snakes and briars they cut down on my scent left behind.

Earlier today I went to check a couple of my cams and found 2 of the little buggers on me.
And as said before a spray that has deet in it usually works well.

The product fx4hauler is showing is excellent. I have used it in the past. When you get a tick on you , you can actually watch it panic and fall off and soon to die . It does have an aerosol scent to it though.

This is a better product from the same company. Works the same only hardly any scent at all. Same permethrin content.

Sawyer , Coulstons , and Repel are now owned by the same company with the same repellents just different names.

These are the unscented versions in a can and spray bottle . These are by far the the absolute best products on the market. Just shop for price. I usually order a case of 12 cans of the Coulstons where I can get the best price. The Sawyer spray bottle in the link is the best price I found with free shipping.
I can find better prices than Natchezss on the aerosol cans buying by the 12 can case. I need that many cans because I have 9 hunting outfits to treat for me and my 2 sons, and for summer cam checks. I WILL NOT go in the woods on cam checks or hunting without treated outfits . We have gotten infested with ticks here in southern NH in the last 10 years.
