Not sure why these guys look so skinny and ratty. A bunch of guys in the area feed them every night and we have had the hottest winter here on the island in recorded history. Plenty of food around for them.

We've had the same warm winter here in Michigan. I think their winter coat is already starting to shed and that may be part of it and they are just small. I have pics of the deer in my area starting to lose their winter coat and they look ratty also.

We've had flowers and plants and trees blooming since January. Those deer should be in much better shape. Plus, they go from bird feeders to antler traps to feeding stations on a nightly basis.

You may be right, Arky! Tonite I offered them salt. Watching them now on the Little Acorn MMS that's below the D55 on the same tree. They go to the salt, sniff it and walk away. Should have laced it with molasses.

Maybe that is why they are thin. It was so warm there this winter they didn't need the extra fat for insulation against the cold. Mother Nature is one sly babe!
BTW nice day pic from that D55.

I took another look at the picture and they really don't look all that bad for deer comin' out a winter into spring.... I've seen a lot worst for the ware but I have seen better too... MAybe the "junk food" is what they needed....  Both my boys grew to healthy young men eatin' "junk food" all the life, so maybe that's what will happen to these youngsters... :D :D

So last night I put salt down for the herd. They didn't touch it. I keep reading here to feed deer salt. Why won't they eat it? Does it take a few days for them to try it?
