The user called Emmardesja94 posted several times before I caught it with a link to a web site that would apparently execute an active-x control and install a virus.

I banned the user and removed the content.

Please keep in mind that this is a PUBLIC forum and we are open to vandals of all kinds from anywhere in the world.

If ANYTHING looks suspicious, do not click on it. Please report anything to me via email if you feel that a user is posting something suspiscious or if you know its has harmfull intent.

Please be carefull.

Some easy steps to follow:

1) If a link looks dubious, dont click on it

2) If you have clicked on it and your computer asks you whether you want to install something, JUST SAY NO !!!!!

3) If you have clicked on it, you beter have the very latest Anti-Virus and Anti-Spy software installed and good luck if you have been infected.

4) You may be able to perform a "System Restore" under Windows XP to bring your computer back to a point before it was infected. I have seen this work multiple times.

Folks, just wanted to bump this back to an active post to be sure as many of yall as possible read what Anthony had to say.

I PM'd Anthony today about the influx of real weird User names as newly registered users we have been getting in the last few days...ID's alot like the one that the virus link came from. Anthony feels like spam programing has figured out how to get around the "security" in place in the registering process. Right now, the only alternative would be to go to a system where it would require administrative approval for every new user. At this point Anthony does not want to do this and I'm sure any potential new user would not want it either.

So, as Anthony said earlier, watch yourselves :D !

Thanks!
Ross

We had a similar incident on the m14firingline forum. Some people don't have anything to contribute to anything. They just live to try to cause problems to others. These types need to be gutted and skinned.

A few years back there was this a-hole from Canada who was going around and attacking any site that had to do with hunting or trapping.

He spoke pigin English and could not tell the difference between a deer hunting site and a rock hunting site.

He trashed quite a few sites and the FBI and the Mounties couldn't/wouldn't do anything about him and his buddies.

I did a bit of research and found him and his home address.

I also own a much smaller PHPBB discussion board and I became inundated by spammer/robot registrations. I did a "one-two punch," and made the problem disappear.

I did two mods:

Delete user mod
(to delete the unwanted posters)

Registration Authorization Code "RAC mod"
(requires users to enter a special code to finish the registration.)

The second MOD stopped the frivolous registrations by 100% I was getting 10 to 20 new registrations a day (all spammers) and this has stopped completely.

I opted for admin approval of all new user registrations. With the RAC mod the I'm no longer inundated with emails.
