06-01-06,---We received our new Moultrie M-200 NV (no version) for testing. This model has addressed the whiteout problem by eliminating the flash “on” and leaving the Auto and off as the only options. They also have quit putting the version number in the start up menu. This will probably solve a lot of questions being asked to their customer service folks. It is obvious that Moultrie has spent some long hard hours trying to make all customers happy. This cam is on its way to the testing area and will be reported on in about a week.

Anthony, do they think that the whiteouts are being caused by people accidently putting their flash in the 'on" setting? Or that the software is doing this in error? Can you explain in more depth why this might help....

Thanks,
Ross

Anthony I got my cam back from moultrie yesterday and they put the no version software in my cam. I was wondering why my cam was not showing the version. I hope this version solves the check flash error.

We will provide a more in depth analysis on this new version next week. we put it in the field this morning next to a Leaf River that gets 80 or more pics a week.

The post above basically reiterates what Moultrie said to us in an email. we will try and get a better explaination prior to a final write up on this version.

I wonder how they are loading the software? Surely they could provide it as a free download and set thier camera's up so that the consumer could update them w/out having to send them in.....providing that the software upgrade fixes the saucer eyes and whiteout problems of course.

I think providing 'updates' has worked out pretty well for Microsoft...

It's my understanding through the "grapevine" that Moultrie is not real close to releasing the new 4.1mp.

Anthony, I had an interesting happening on my last DL(today) with my 200. I had set it for a 1 minute delay and had turned the flash off. Mainly because I didn't think the deer would appreciate a flash a minute at my feeder at night. Anyway, I got 160 pics in 8 days. 40 of them were night photos that were completely blank as expected. 120 were daylight pics... not one of them was a washout. I have never DL'd pics with this camera and not have some washouts. I wonder if/how me turning off flash could have a bearing on the washouts?

Ross

EDIT: I went back over the pics I DL'd off the 200 today. I had 117 daytime pics. 3 were somewhat washed out...none were "whiteouts". A very acceptable performance & overall pic quality was good.

Welcome to the forums stick!

You are the first person I can recall on here with a 4.1 Moultrie. Please keep us informed on how it works.

I couldn't wait till I got it in the woods, so I put it in the back yard with the kids and dog. I got 35 pictures and only 4 were blank the rest had someone or something moving through the picture. If it performs that well in the woods I will be very happy!!!!

I just checked my moultrie-200 4.1 and I had three pictures on it one of my father in law brushhogging, two of does, and one of eyes way in the distance at midnight. I dont have a lot of activity this time of year so I think this camera is getting everything that goes by. I would upload the pictures but my inlaws computer only has windows 98, and I didn't have a sd card in. I now have the card in and will change it out next week, and upload the pictures on my computer wich is about an hour and a half from here Just keeping everyone informed.

Update as of 7/08/2006:

The latest Moultrie NV we tested has the solar terminals on the outside of the case.

We placed the camera in a parallel test with other cameras of known performance. In all cases the Moultrie NV (No version) performed up to par or better than than these other cameras.

We ran our camera with flash in "AUTO" mode.

In previous tests we discovered that firmware updates had solved triggering problems.

The final issue to be resolved was the washout issue. Out of 1 weeks worth of photos, a total of 115, there was not a single washout photo in the bunch. Our last test on a previous model was around 50% washout.

We are confident that Moultrie has the firmware issues fixed. Picture quality, trggiering, flash are functioning well. Battery life is excellent.

We reccomend this final shipping version of the Moultrie Game Spy 200 over earlier versions.

Anthony,

Is there any way of telling if it is the correct version of the camera/firmware at time of purchase?

D

I dont think the retailer will know anything nor be able to advise you on this. If the firmware does not display on the LCD panel during boot up then it is a newer version.
