Steel baking pan bracket

Buy a 8X8X2 steel baking pan and drill two holes and the S and I series WGI cams will fit snug inside the pan as a security enclosure. The cost of the pan is from $5 to $7 and can be found in most grocery or department stores like Kmart and  Walley World. The supplied bungee cables can be used to hook the pan to the tree and a Python around the tree and through the holes (1/2") drilled in the handle portion of the pan. The holes should be drilled so that the cable passes over the the red green indicators on the front of the cam. A stick behind the pan can be used to bring the pan into aim so your camera can capture the pictures of that monster.

Last year this company came to the market and provided the consumers with the Timber eye, Timber View and Remington Ghost cameras. They experienced the same kind of first year difficulties that happened with the Covert 11 introduction. This company however went to work as these difficulties were discovered and by late season they had functional cameras that seemed to do a pretty good job. This camera style last year was released under the Timber View name and we liked this camera except it wanted to gobble up batteries a little too soon. These camera models are being released in the same case just like Spy point where all cameras have the same basic appearance so the initial portion of the review will deal with everything that is the same and below we will discuss each models difference and performance. The case is 8X 7X 2 1/4 inches and is hinged with a sealed gasket. Inside when opened there is a large LCD programming screen with the control buttons just below. The SD card slot is centered at the bottom. The capacity is up to 2 gigs and with the 2/4 MP rating this should be very adequate. This camera is advertised as having 16mb internal memory and a 20 ft PIR and flash range. There are two slots left and right of the screen that accepts the 2 C cells in each slot. If things have advanced with these cameras as they did last year these cameras should be much improved over last years cameras. There is the TV out and USB ports and the camera they come with the cords (USB/TV) and bungee cords to hang it with. These are very good looking cameras and somewhat resemble the Prowler cam that Stealth cam produced. This advance flat black look fits amazing well on a tree with out sticking out like a sore thumb. We will get some trigger times and flash ranges done before getting into the other individual functions. There is no security brackets offered by this company or after market that we could find, so individuals will have to come up with their own. There are no loops on the back of the camera for the use of a strap. Bungee loops are located on each corner of the camera. The documentation is very well written and easy to follow. Programming is super simple and uses three buttons with the program button letting you to enter the programming and also to enter your selection once selected. The IR-4 has one additional setting for video which is not a function of the S-2. Below the programming buttons is a small orange button to reset the camera back to default whenever you need it returned to that function. Both cameras are identical in function so our pictures will be of just one camera internally. The only difference visually is the additional video indicator on the LCD screen when programming the IR-4. The other difference is one is strobe flash and the other is IR flash. The PIR and status indicators just below the main camera and PIR lens are red and green. These are extremely bright and some folks may want to tape over them.



This camera has all the same features as the S2 except this camera is IR flash and has the addition of video mode (320X240). Pictures are 4 MP color day black and white nights. It has 3 delay settings: 30sec, 1 minute, 2 minutes.  This camera also came in with a near one second trigger time and packs a price tag of under a hundred dollars. Flash range is past 40 feet and appears to have a good spread. Field tests are next and letís hope we see some half way decent pictures and we may start to rave about these two cameras, provided it donít take a load of batteries to do it. I am pretty excited and want to get these in the field so we can gain answers to those two main questions.

07-29-2009 update:  We are in the process of obtaining a second camera so we can do a little more comparison testing. The first camera has impressed us on speed and most of the picture quality. The flash appears to also be doing a very good job exceeding the advertised range. We still are waiting on battery life and we are going to gather some videos.

07-30-2009 update:  We were able to capture some video and we noticed that this cam has a zoom that really brings things in close in the movie mode. The video illumination seemed to be very even but somewhat subdued. This low illumination covered the whole area and the pictures were readable at the 320x240 resolution. This is the only video setting available on this cam. We also have a good number of color day videos that are also readable and good color but typical fuzzy for that rez. I think that this cam has more potential in the picture mode that the video mode. Still going strong and no indication of low battery yet and we have captured a good many pictures in the 6 days running so far.

08-03-2009 update:  I took a little time and figured out how to do an external battery on these cameras. The hook up was simple but I cannot tell you to go ahead and open up your camera and perform this modification because it would probably void the warranty. I have a fairly simple method of doing this but I believe that should be up to the person who wishes to modify his/her own camera. What I will tell you is that with the cam open and you are looking at the front of the camera. The positive terminal is the bottom left plate inside the left hand side battery hole and the negative terminal is the top right spring inside the right hand battery hole. How you choose to hook to these is up to you. The operating voltage is (6) six volts and be sure to observe proper polarity when hooking up. My battery of choice was a 14 amp hour SLA battery. We have it hooked up and operating just fine. I just ran the wires out the door. For those who are talented, a barrel plug jack mounted through the bottom of the case would be much better. Those parts are available at Radio Shack, but drilling through the case to mount it would definitely void any possibility of return.

08-06-2009 update:  Sensing range proved to be out past 50 feet and the battery life was a short 13 days and it took 201 movies and 1006 pictures. As stated with the S-2 camera, this is not great battery life but for the picture count it is acceptable. Both our IR-4 cameras had a small whiteout issue under heavy canopy at the change from daylight to dark and dark to daylight (about a 30 minute period) each day. Picture quality for day and night is very good for the camera price. We are pulling our first IR-4 and now are just going to run the new one because we need the room to move a new camera into that space.

08-18-2009 update:  We have ran a couple weeks and gathered 1041 pictures on the external battery hook up to the camera. It appears to still be running strong so we will keep on and report to see when the 14 Ah SLA gives up the ghost.  I think we will have a long wait.

09-26-2009 update:  The external battery test is over.  Using the 14AH external SLA battery, the camera took its first photo on 08/03/2009.  The last photo was taken on 09/19/2009.  A total of 1957 photos on this test.  This is not great in comparison to other cameras but it is an option.  These 1957 photos could have been spread over several months making this a decent set up.  Next year this company needs to concetrate on improving battery life on all models of their cameras.  We have seen much improvement from this company over last year.  Keep up the good work WGI.  This review is closed.
