2009 Spypoint IR-C
|
The top of the line in the standard sized camera
this jewel has some slick features. At $349 this camera pushes
things to the limit. All of the standard features as the A and B
models (see link) plus a group of other features. To start off with
it has a view screen (2.4 inch) and programming is done in the
scroll, toggle and select method on screen. Plus pictures can be
toggled through in the field and viewed on the screen. There are
also programming options to select lower resolutions. The video
resolution is still 640X480 as the A and B cameras. This camera also
has the option of using standard C cells or the optional Lithium ion
rechargeable battery. Tucked away in the battery compartment is the
plug to hook to the optional battery. The spy-point solar panel can
also be hooked up in conjunction with the LI battery. Our old 08
camera was just upgraded by way of download to near 09
specifications. This is what is great about this company. If it
needs fixing in the middle of the year they do it. It is not like
some other companies, where what you buy at day one in the year is
what you will have to live with all year long. More and more this is
becoming the trend. Being able to download and upgrade the firmware
to adjust sensing distance, trigger times and other functions is
very nice.
04-27-2009 update: Additional
coverage by the PIR sensor this year is due to a new multi zone lens
they selected to upgrade their camera line for security purposes.
Trigger time tests for this camera were extremely long and tedious.
The reason for this was we had just upgraded our 08 C model to a new
trigger time. On an average this camera came in just about a half
second faster than the A and B models. Tests showed just over 1.5
seconds on an average for both day and night pictures. This is a
respectable trigger time and will allow its use in just about every
trail situation.
07-03-2009 update: Our battery life test has
completed for this camera. We started the battery life test on 06-03-2009
and it ran through 07/03/2009. The camera took 1162 (10 second) video
clips and 2660 8mp Photos. This is a very respectable battery life
considering the amount of movies the camera has taken.
07-17-2009 update: The crowd of new cameras
is forcing this review to a close because we have two new cameras from this
company coming plus others. Function with this camera was a little better with
the faster trigger time. The additional MP’s is nice but we felt it to be an
over kill because of the large file sizes that we have to deal with during
handling. Solar panel help with battery life of the LI cells was about a
thousand pictures and without about 3000 pictures. So this camera seems to do
most everything very well. Should more updates come from the factory we are
closing this review for now.
