Its Midsummer and the reviews are
picking up... Our testing continues and some of the long term reviews are still running full throttle. The little HCO 30 cams are still out and performing well and have not developed any difficulties. Their overall function is good but the picture quality is somewhat weak. The next camera that is still out there is the Scoutguard 550 and this little camera has performed well above our expectations. We are seeing that its outstanding video quality has made it a favorite with a lot of folks. The still images are also very good. It is a strong performer and its popularity is growing daily. Reconyx RC-60 has been pushed and pulled in every direction and this camera is just a super performer but its ownership comes with an elevated price. This has become one of our favorite cameras but we would like to see it come out next year with a movie mode. Recon’s Extreme 3.0 developed problems early on in the review and had to be returned for a factory re do. Moultrie announced their power panel (solar) with built in battery and we have ran it through its paces. The cost is a little prohibitive but the performance with the I and M series cameras has been outstanding and still today we have months of uninterrupted service from this device. Moultrie also announced that they would have no new cameras for 08 so we decided to just pull cameras off the market fresh out of the box from the factory to see if anything had changed. Well the I-40 that became the rave last year had basically fell on its face with a trigger time that is twice as long as last years and more issues with whiteout and not switching to color from night to day. Moultrie was notified but has chosen not address this issue with us. Stealth cams for 08 has brought out the little sports camera called the Epic and we had a chance to play with it but we quickly ran out of innovative uses for this cam. It is a strong performer and when used as designed works well. The StealthCam 6.0 Sniper (WD series) from this company kind of fell on its face in this months review. It came in with a 5 second trigger time and some definite whiteout issues like its predecessor the I450. What color pictures we did get were very good quality. The movie mode of this camera leaves a lot to be desired. Next we got out hands on the Stealth I -540IR camera. This is a $120 camera and is just full of features and all work well except for its lousy near 5 second trigger time. Where this camera shines is in the movie mode where it is up near the Scoutguard 550’s quality. The long anticipated release of the Leaf River IR5 cams was short lived when the first batch may have been shipped out with some functions not meeting the factories high standards. Things are on hold and we hope to continue the review shortly. This next week should bring us several more cameras to test so stay tuned.
Over on the forum Yoder is still trying to catch bad guys and Peter has his deer singing. The whitetail guy releases a report on the Capture that pretty well follows our note from earlier. Outdoorbob is recuperating and is still in need of possibly more surgery. Rosco is lost somewhere in Texas trying to find where he hung that last cam.
The Home brew folks are
still busy washing bottles and complaining about the price of
corn. At least the hogs are happy consuming the leftovers.
